The Cardiac Yoga Teacher Training Program is an internationally renowned certification program designed to educate and train medical personnel and yoga instructors to work with cardiac patients and their spouses in the area of Mind-Body Medicine and Yoga. Participants in this comprehensive training program learn how to adapt the basic concepts of medical yoga, mind-body medicine, and stress management to the special needs of the cardiac patient and their spouses.
New brain imaging technologies now enable scientists to see directly into our brain & observe how meditation & yoga practices positively shape our neurobiology & neurochemistry. This workshop focuses on providing a didactic, experiential, & applied understanding of the neurobiological impact of the yoga and mindfulness practices. It is designed to help deepen your understanding of how & why Yoga works. Yoga Therapy and mindfulness practices will be taught and will be looked at through the lens of current neuroscience research & polyvagal theory.
We know that the yoga practices enhance resiliency, optimism, self-regulation, health status & mood states. This workshop will provide: 1) an overview of Affective Neuroscience and how this field supports & aligns with the field of Yoga Therapy, 2) a foundational understanding of neuroscience theory & research and how yoga & meditation impacts on brain chemistry, plasticity & mood management, 3) experiential opportunities for understanding & applying specific asanas, breathing, meditation, & cognitive revamping through a combined lens of yoga & neuroscience, and 4) how polyvagal theory can be applied to yoga therapy treatment options.

The course is designed for students to acquire a basic understanding of Medical Yoga related to theory, history, research and application (clinical and self-care applications).
Students will learn and be expected to: 1) understand medical yoga from a historical perspective, 2) understand & articulate basic theories of Medical Yoga (yoga chikitsa) & Ayurvedic Medicine as a therapeutic modality, 3) comprehend and articulate research related to neuroscience and how yoga impacts on our neurobiology, 4) understand and articulate theories of stress and illness from a yogic and allopathic perspective, 5) comprehend and apply basic Medical Yoga self-care techniques, and 6) understand basic foundational medical yoga practices and Hospital Bed Yoga practices for application in a therapeutic patient care setting.
The course will include both didactic and experiential components. No previous experience with yoga practices is necessary for inclusion in this course.
